It’s that time of year pumpkin spice lattes(who really drinks them btw?), mums and family photos. If your anything like me the first thing you think about is what on earth are we going to wear? I always suggest starting with a vibe that will work for your entire family.
This year we went with a very classic nautical navy look. My goal was to find some looks that will coordinate and photograph well. When choosing looks I always try to find items that offer a great neckline, a mix of color and a print but not to busy. The hardest part for me is finding that dress that photographs well. We all hate when we look at a picture and we think, OMG do I really look like that?! The answer is actually No! What you wear and how it fits is everything. We all love those babydoll dresses and romantic boho looks until you see yourself on camera looking like you are 6 months preggers. Here are some easy tips for a seamless family photo shoot.
Never wear a horizontal stripe. In fact just stay a way from stripes unless you are in Paris with a red baret. Try picking solid classic patterns with great neck lines.
Nobody looks good in a sweater dress. And an entire family in cable knit is one mantel picture you will live to regret. Try one one family member in a sweater and skirt combo. A great sweater will offer good texture, just don’t hide behind a bulky silhouette.
Try to mix up your looks with a variety of textures and shades and its okay to throw in a fun print.
Lighting is everything. If you have hired a photographer they will likely point you in the right direction on this and if your Aunt Joan is doing the shoot for you remember sunset is the golden hour. Keep in mind that no matter how beautiful Auntie Joan’s cruise pictures are, a good photographer is always worth it. A beautiful professional family portrait is priceless.
